It is the capital of the regional unit of Kastoria and is located on a peninsula on the western shore of Lake Orestiada, in a valley surrounded by limestone mountains. It is believed that Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1081\u20131118) built the monastery to commemorate the event.<br data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1125\" \/>Around Lake Kastoria there are 72 churches and chapels, with the <strong data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"802\">Mavriotissa <\/strong>to be one of the oldest.<br data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1240\" \/>(There is no specific dress code, but please be modestly dressed.)<\/p><h4 data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1612\"><strong data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1377\">Second stop: Dragon&#039;s Cave<\/strong><\/h4><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1612\">Stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes decorate the 10 rooms of the cave, while the 7 underground lakes along a 300-meter path create a unique experience.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1686\"><strong data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1686\">Third stop: Lunch at a local tavern <\/strong>(1 hour and 30 minutes)<\/h4><h4 data-start=\"1688\" data-end=\"1851\"><strong data-start=\"1688\" data-end=\"1720\">Fourth and final stop: Free time in front of the lake <\/strong>(1 hour)<\/h4><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1688\" data-end=\"1851\">Stroll
