Kilkis is located in Northern Greece, in the region of Central Macedonia. It is known for its natural beauty, rich history and geological wonders. The Cave of Agios Georgios is one of the most impressive caves in Greece, while Lake Kerkini offers a unique birdwatching experience and natural beauty.
First Stop: St. George's Cave (1 hour driving / 1 hour in the cave – Up to 25 people per group)
The Cave of Saint George is one of the most important tourist destinations in the city of Kilkis. It is located at the base of the hill of Saint George and was discovered by chance in 1925 by the quarryman George Pavlidis. The cave was opened to the public in 1986 and has an area of over a thousand square meters with a length of explored routes of 300 meters. In the cave there are rare decorations made of coral material, impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and archaeological findings that give rise to the special beauty of the cave.
Its most important peculiarity, which is responsible for spreading its fame beyond the Greek borders, is that the Cave of Agios Georgios is medically suitable for the treatment of respiratory diseases. In the study carried out, it was shown that the cave offers therapeutic effects in chronic respiratory problems (asthma) and in skin diseases from allergic infections.
Second Stop: Lake Kerkini (1 hour 10 minutes drive / 45 minutes cruise on the lake and 1 hour 10 minutes lunch)
Lake Kerkini is an artificial lake in Central Macedonia, created in 1932 and reconstructed in 1980, on the site of a former extensive swamp. Lake Kerkini is today one of the top birdwatching destinations in Greece, as it lies along the migratory route of birds heading towards the Aegean Sea, the Balkans, the Black Sea, the Hungarian Steppes and beyond.
After the lake cruise, we will enjoy a meal with fresh local products and the view of the lake.
